Atlantis Season Five cast changes announced!
IOA representative Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo) will be replacing Samantha Carter as commander of Atlantis operations in the show's benchmark fifth season.
"Robert Picardo, whom Stargate fans will recognize as International Oversight Committee rep "Richard Woolsey," joins the Stargate Atlantis cast this season as Woolsey assumes command of the Atlantis expedition," said the press release today. "The team, led by Lt. Colonel Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), must adjust to his unique leadership style.
"Woolsey was first introduced in the Stargate universe in the Season Seven episode "Heroes, Part 2," in which he ran an investigation of SGC personnel during their darkest period of grief over the loss of Janet Fraiser, a move which won him few friends. When the International Oversight Advisory was formed in the wake of Anubis's attack on Earth, Woolsey was transferred from the NID into their offices. He advocates civilian oversight of all Stargate programs, but has also become a strong advocate for the personnel of each base.
The press release also confirms that actor Paul McGillion will return for at least five episodes in Season Five. SG-1 stars Amanda Tapping and Michael shanks will also make special guest appearances
